Kentucky: Bevin says pay college athletes. “I think we should pay college athletes …” Gov. Matt Bevin (R) said on WKYX. “This idea that they’re not professionals is nonsense … Some of them, yes, go to class, but most of them are students differently because they’re there for athletics and not academics.” The Courier-Journal noted that college football and basketball teams “generate billions of dollars” for their schools ……. Arkansas: Hutchinson has one foe so far. By this time before a statewide election year, gubernatorial candidates are beginning to come out of the woodwork. However, Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s (R) only announced opponent is not even from a major party, but Libertarian Mark West. No Democrat has come forward nor – despite rumors – has a Republican Primary challenger, reports ……. Virginia: Stewart talks with Gillespie. Corey Stewart, the very conservative contender who came within a hair of winning the June GOP primary, is now talking with Gillespie’s campaign about a possible endorsement. According to the Washington Post, ex-White House major aide Steve Bannon and David Bossie, a deputy campaign manager for Trump, have encouragement a rapprochement between the two Republicans. Gillespie has hard-hitting TV spots on illegal immigration and others defending Confederate monuments, the issue that Gillespie focused on in the primary …….
