Virginia: McAuliffe for President? Unnamed confidants of Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) told The Hill last week that he is “seriously” considering a run for the White House in 2020. “I don’t think he’s 100% decided… but it is something he’s seriously considering.” Meanwhile, reports the Washington Post, a group of Chinese businessmen are suing McAuliffe, contending he “tricked” them into investing in an electric-car company that went belly-up. This was previously used against McAuliffe – unsuccessfully – in previous campaigns in Virginia ……. Texas: Farenthold joins the parade. The list of sexual harassment transgressors grows longer by the day. The latest politico on the list is US Rep. Blake Farenthold (R), who has been identified as the member behind an $84,000 settlement from a Treasury Department fund set up to settle sexual harassment and other claims against members of Congress. The complainant was Farenthold’s former communications director, reports the Houston Chronicle …….Louisiana: Jefferson freed. Former US Rep. William Jefferson (D) was released from his prison last week after having served half of his 13-year sentence on corruption charges, reports the Washington Post. He was released in October, in the wake of the US Supreme Court decision in favor of former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell (R), but had remained on court monitoring until last week …….
