Around the South for July 3rd: TX, SC, & VA

Texas: Cloud wins special election.  Former GOP Party county chairman Michael Cloud won a crowded special election to succeed Congressman Blake Farenthold, who resigned in disgrace earlier this year following allegations of sexual abuse.  Cloud will only keep the seat until January, when he’ll have to run again.  South Carolina: Graham urges Trump to keep troops in Syria.  U.S. Rep. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) is upset at the idea of pulling troops out of Syra, saying it would “be terrible” if the U.S. left as their allies continue to battle terrorists.  Virginia: GOP conflicted over senate candidate.  Many Virginia Republicans are unsure as to whether they will support U.S. Senate nominee Corey Stewart, who has received criticism for his vocal support of Confederate statues and association with white nationalists.  Stewart will face incumbent Tim Kaine in November.
