Williams-Farmer ticket announces for Kentucky governor

Compiled from InsiderAdvantage and Southern Political Report staff

September 1, 2010

The David Williams - Richie Farmer gubernatorial ticket has launched with the message that "Kentucky is adrift" and that the Republican pair offer bold ideas and leadership to set the course.

-- U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn [of South Carolina] said he is working on a plan that would charge a new tax on Wall Street transactions that would end up generating the $500 billion to fund a new transportation bill and pay back money toward the national deficit each year. Trades would be assessed a 0.25 percent tax, under the proposal.

-- Alabama made national headlines this week when 25 more schools reported they will likely have to extend lines of credit to remain open, in addition to the five schools that borrowed from banks last year.

-- Former President Bill Clinton's appearance for Mike McWherter next week in Tennessee may not be his last of the campaign, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate said.
