McCain leads in Georgia and Tennessee; Obama leads in Georgia, Clinton leads in Tennessee
Compiled from InsiderAdvantage and Southern Political Report staff
January 31, 2008 — So much for the Deep South saving Mitt Romney’s presidential bid. At least that’s the loud clue on the GOP race for president provided by two new InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion polls from Thursday night.
Taking a cue from their fellow Republican voters in Florida, where McCain won a shocking primary victory on Jan. 29, Georgians and Tennesseans prefer McCain as well.
On the Democratic side, it looks suspiciously like a racial divide in the South. Barack Obama appears to be headed to an easy win in Georgia, where blacks make up a substantial proportion of Democratic voters. And Hillary Clinton has a comfortable lead in Tennessee, where white voters more heavily predominate among Democratic voters.
