Georgia: Bishop co-chairs Black Caucus Conference. US Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA) is co-chairing the 44th annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference, which is being held this week in the nation’s capital. Bishop told the Washington Post, “The important thing is for people to be informed, for them to collaborate and share thoughts and strategies on how we can empower the people in America.” He added that the conference was important because “you have folks from all corners of the country descending on Washington for brain trusts, issues forums and matters that affect the safety and quality of life of people in this country.”
Florida: Scott, Crist still close. The latest Quinnipiac Poll, released September 24, shows Republican Gov. Rick Scott with 44% to 42% for his Democratic challenger, former Gov. Charlie Crist. Libertarian Adrian Wyllie had 8%.
Alabama: Bentley gets NRA support. The National Rifle Association has endorsed Gov. Robert Bentley (R), citing his signing of a bill that requires sheriffs to cite a specific reason for denying a permit to carry a concealed pistol, reports AL.com. Bentley faces former US Rep. Parker Griffith (D) in the Nov. 4 election.
