Virginia, Arkansas, & North Carolina

Virginia: Warner, Kaine vote against Reid. Two of the six Democrats who voted against US Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) to continue as Senate Democratic Leader were Virginia Sens. Mark Warner (D) and Tim Kaine (D). In last Thursday’s Democratic caucus, Reid also agreed to allow a Senate vote on the Keystone Pipeline, in hopes that passage will help embattled US Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) in her December 6 runoff election

Arkansas: Huckabee gearing up for another White House race? Former Arkansas governor and now a Fox News television talk show host Mike Huckabee (R) is taking major steps toward a bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016. According to the Washington Post, Huckabee’s PAC, America Takes Action is employing experienced political operatives who could staff a presidential bid. Huckabee, who is leading a group of 100 pastors and conservative activists on a trip to Poland and England this week, is also planning private meetings with potential big-dollar donors in California, Las Vegas and New York.

North Carolina. US Sen. Kay Hagan (D), who lost her reelection bid to Thom Tillis (R) this month by a slender 1.7 percentage points, is being touted as a potential challenger to US Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), who comes up for reelection in 2016, a presidential year when more of the Democratic base is likely to turn out to vote. Politico, National Journal and Raleigh’s News & Observer carried the story. Stay tuned.
