Around the South for Dec. 10: AL, VA & TX

Alabama: Byrne (R), Sewell (D) to hold joint town hall. US Rep. Bradley Byrne, a Republican, and US Rep. Terri Sewell, a Democrat, will hold a joint town hall meeting on Dec. 15 in Jackson, AL, near the border where the two lawmakers’ districts meet, reports AL.com. “While Congresswoman Sewell and I have different views on a number of issues,” Byrne wrote in his weekly column, “it doesn’t prevent us from finding common ground in an effort to make southwest Alabama a better place to live, work and raise a family.” ……. Virginia: Kaine wants debate on use of force against ISIS. US Sen. Tim Kaine (D), in a Monday interview on CNN, said Congress should debate whether or not to use military force against the Islamist terrorist group. “Constitutionally, Congress is supposed to weigh in, but the real issue here is you shouldn’t ask men and women to risk their lives … unless Congress is willing to debate it.” ……. Texas: Abbott staying neutral on 2016. When “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd asked Gov-elect Greg Abbott whether he would endorse out-going Gov. Rick Perry, US Sen. Ted Cruz (TX), Texan-by-family Jeb Bush, or Texas-born US Sen. Rand Paul for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination, Abbott had an easy answer: “I’m staying out of the primary.”
