Arkansas: Hutchinson proposes first budget. It’s more money for public schools, prisons and Medicaid under the new budget proposed by newly inaugurated Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R). Spending for colleges and universities would remain flat, while other state agencies would be cut by 1%. Meanwhile, a bill to cut state income taxes by 1% for earners between $21,000 and $75,000 annually is making its way through the legislature ……. South Carolina: Scott sponsors veterans’ job workshops. US Sen. Tim Scott (R) is partnering with community colleges and technical schools to host at least eight workshops to help veterans prepare for civilian employment. The first was held Tuesday in Spartanburg County, reports GoUpstate.com ……. Tennessee: Haslam in the money. Forbes magazine reports that Gov. Bill Haslam (R) is the wealthiest elected official in the US, with an estimated fortune of $2 billion. Haslam’s money comes from his 15% share in Pilot Flying J, a truck stop and travel center chain founded by his father in 1958. When gasoline prices fall, folks fill up at the pump more often, creating more profits for companies that sell gasoline …….
