Alabama: Moore, activists square off over gay matrimony. State Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore ordered county officials to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples in spite of a federal court order to do so. But gay activists in the state have gone back to court, asking US District Judge Callie V. S. Granade to order Mobile County, and other counties across the state, to issue the licenses ……. Tennessee: Corker gives guarded OK to AUMF. President Obama’s request for Congress to pass an Authorization for the Use of Military Force against ISIS drew cautious comments from US Sen. Lamar Alexander (R), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “It is my hope that we will fulfill our constitutional responsibility, and in a bipartisan way, pass an authorization that allows us to confront this serious threat.” Alexander, however, urged the president to “exert leadership, lay out a clear strategy for confronting the threat posed by ISIS, and do the hard work of making the case to the American people…” ……. Virginia: House approves some medical marijuana. By a vote of 98 to 0, with 2 abstentions, Virginia’s Republican-controlled House of Delegates approved a bill that would legalize the medical use of two oils derived from marijuana and used in the treatment of epilepsy …….
