South Carolina: Future of SC State in doubt. Two subcommittees of the state House and Ways Committee have recommended that S.C. State University be closed, due to severe financial problems. However, state Rep. Chip Limehouse (R) has introduced a bill to require Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to appoint a receiver for the school, with the authority to keep or fire university President Thomas Elzey. One Limehouse suggestion, reports the Charleston Regional Business Journal, “I know it’s a historically black college, but let’s open it up to whoever wants to pay tuition and is qualified to go there.” ……. Virginia: Bush helps down-ticket GOPers. On President’s Day, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush headlined a fundraiser at Richmond’s top-drawer Jefferson Hotel to help finance the Republican State Leadership Committee, which supports candidates for the legislature and other down-ballot offices. The price of the event was $5,000 a pop, $25,000 to be a host. The event offered Bush a chance to meet and greet some of the major money players in the Virginia GOP ……. Tennessee: DesJarlais says Impeach! US Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R), speaking at a town hall meeting earlier this month, said, “President Obama should be impeached. It’s not easy to impeach a president. But if you tell me how to do it, I’ll do it.” His remarks were published in the Tennessee Journal and The Daily Herald …….
