Kentucky: McConnell standing firm. When it comes to legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) is not playing his usual role of finding a compromise that will allow the measure to pass. Instead, says an article in The Hill, McConnell is standing firm on language that would kill the President’s immigration policies. That, say critics (D), is because “He cares more about scoring points with the hard right.” ……. Florida: Bush ahead of Rubio in endorsements. Former Gov. Jeb Bush is way ahead of US Sen. Marco Rubio in securing support for his White House bid among the state’s Republican US House members, even among Hispanic members. Five are backing Bush: Crenshaw, Diaz-Balart, Jolly, Ros-Lehtinen & Ross. And John Mica is leaning toward Bush. In Rubio’s corner, Tom Rooney. Ten others are undecided or didn’t respond to The Hill’s survey ……. Religion: Southerners highest in church attendance. According to Gallup, 11 of the top 12 states in church attendance are in the South, in this order: MS, AL, LA, AR, SC, TN, KY, NC, GA, TX & OK – but not FL & VA. In first place, however, is Utah.
