Tennessee: Corker measure on Iran up next week. US Sen. Bob Corker (R), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement that his committee will take up his bill to require congressional review of “any comprehensive nuclear agreement with Iran.” Co-sponsors include US Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Tim Kaine (D-VA). After Corker’s committee reports the bill, it will go to the Senate floor, probably next week ……. Alabama: State’s high court halts same-sex matrimony. The state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that an earlier federal court ruling that Alabama’s ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional did not replace state law and order probate judges across the state to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The matter will ultimately be settled by the US Supreme Court ……. VRA: Voting Rights Act shows progress, gaps. In the half century since Congress enacted legislation to end discrimination against African Americans at the ballot box, the number of black elected officials has grown from less than 1,000 to more than 10,000, according to a study released by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.
