Virginia: Bush to speak at Liberty. Not to be outdone by Ted Cruz, who announced his presidential candidacy at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Jeb Bush will be the commencement speaker at there on May 9. The announcement came from the school’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr. Liberty University, a center of evangelical Protestantism, bills itself as the world’s largest Christian university. Bush is a cradle Episcopalian who converted to Catholicism when he married Columba, a native of Mexico ……. Louisiana: Jindal wants to rescind corporate rebates. Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) has proposed doing away with rebates of taxes paid by certain businesses, including wind and solar, research and development, natural gas, milk, and musical and theatrical businesses, reports the Times Picayune. Jindal’s plan has been endorsed by Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, but drew fire from Louisiana Association of Business and Industry President Stephen Waguespack, who said, “If you remove the rebate, that is a tax increase.” ……. Kentucky: Kelley Paul gets in spotlight. The Washington Post devoted a major story to Kelley Paul, the wife of presidential hopeful Rand Paul, reporting her efforts to “soften the public image of her husband.” For example, she urged Paul, an ophthalmologist, to tell about operating on the eyes of a Guatemala couple, as part of his pro bono work, who could then see each other clearly for the first time.
