Virginia: Warner urges drone defense research. US Sen. Mark Warner (D), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, has written a letter to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx urging him to work with the public and private sectors to develop defenses to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), popularly known as drones. “[A] series of high-profile incidents over the last year have shown that it is also necessary to develop rapidly technologies that can ensure the safe operation of drones around sensitive areas like airports and high-profile locations like the White House,” Warner wrote ……. Tennessee: Corker praises passage of Iran Nuclear Agreement measure. US Sen. Bob Corker (R), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, praised both houses of Congress for their overwhelming support of legislation requiring congressional review of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. The proposal passed the Senate 98-2 and passed the House 400-25. Corker called the results “a show of bipartisanship that is often too rare today.” ……. North Carolina: Burr defends phone records collection. US Sen. Richard Burr (R), interviewed by ABC News’ Martha Raddatz, defended the National Security Agency’s collection of Americans’ telephone records, calling the program “very effective at keeping America safe.” Burr noted that the only time the agency was interested in a particular individual was “if we know they have talked to a telephone number of a terrorist,” and even then NSA has to obtain a court order to go further …….
