Florida: Legislature passes budget, adjourns. Both houses of the Florida legislature last week unanimously passed a record-high $78.7 billion state budget, finishing the only business they are required by law to accomplish. The session was pro-longed by an unsuccessful fight by the Senate to expand Medicaid. The lawmakers also passed $430 million in tax cuts …….Mississippi: Wicker signs on to BRIDGE. US Sen. Roger Wicker (R) added his name as a co-sponsor to the Building and Renewing Infrastructure for Development and Growth in Employment (BRIDGE) Act. “Attracting private investment in infrastructure is often too cumbersome and complex for many small towns and counties,” Wicker said. “This innovative plan would address that problem by providing much-needed assistance for these rural communities to get the funds they sorely need.” ……. Tennessee: DesJarlais cancer-free. US Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R), who discovered he had cancer in his neck in 2010, announced that his oncologist told him in May that, after undergoing extensive treatments, he is now free of cancer, reports Murfreesboro’s Daily News Journal …….
