North Carolina: Meadows resumes chairmanship. The removal of second-term US Rep. Mark Meadows (R) from the chairmanship of the governmental operations subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee for backing the challenge to House Speaker John Boehner has been reversed. Meadows is a member of the Freedom Caucus, a group of some 60 conservative House Republicans who were much vexed by Meadows removal, and, reported The Hill and Politico, talked about another challenge to Boehner. That threat now seems abated ……. North Carolina: Hagan opts out of Senate race. Former US Sen. Kay Hagan (D) announced this week that she will not challenge US Sen. Richard Burr (R) next year. Hagan was deemed the strongest potential foe for Burr, due to her name ID and fundraising abilities. No other prospects have announced so far ……. Florida: Miller to seek Rubio’s seat. Seven-term US Rep. Jeff Miller (R), who represents the 1st District (Pensacola, etc.), will announce his candidacy for the GOP nomination for the US Senate seat being vacated by presidential contender Marco Rubio, reports Roll Call. Miller joins two other Republicans, US Rep. Ron DeSantis and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez Cantera, in the race …….
