Texas: George P. denies neglecting duties to help Dad. Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush (R), son of former Florida Gov. and presidential candidate Jeb Bush, denied reports in the Houston Chronicle that he was out of the office 23 of his first 50 days on the job helping his father’s presidential campaign. His office called the report inaccurate, reported the Dallas Morning News, contending he had attended to state business for 50 of 63 days this summer ……. Florida: New marriage licenses applications reflect change. Beginning October 1, applications for marriage licenses in the state of Florida will not refer to “bride” and “groom,” but spouse and spouse. The new wording is in response to the legalization of marriages between two members of the same sex ……. South Carolina: Haley closes two of state’s three abortion clinics. After revelations that some Planned Parenthood clinics had sold tissue from abortions for research purposes, Gov. Nikki Haley (R) ordered state agencies to make sure that the state’s three abortion clinics were in compliance with all state laws and regulations. As a result, two of the three, including a Planned Parenthood clinic in Columbia, were ordered closed until they could show compliance, including appropriate staff training, and paid any fines they owe the state …….
