Kentucky: Paul raising funds for Senate race. US Sen. Rand Paul (R) will attend two fundraisers this week for his senate reelection campaign fund, reports The Hill. However, the paper quotes a close associate of Paul saying that is not a sign he’s abandoning his struggling presidential campaign, just the necessity of running for two offices simultaneously ……. South Carolina: Fiorina courts the cadets. Not too many years ago, the state’s military college, The Citadel, was fighting (unsuccessfully) to preserve its all-male status, complete with “Save the Males” bumper stickers. But last week the GOP’s lone female presidential candidate, Carly Fiorina, “dazzled a packed audience,” reports the Washington Post, with a fact-filled speech outlining military spending priorities and the names of world leaders that she knows ……. Virginia: Obenshain paves way for Gillespie. State Sen. Mark Obenshain (R), who narrowly lost a race for attorney general in 2013, announced this week that he will not seek the governorship in 2017. Obenshain’s announcement clears the field for Ed Gillespie, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, to head the GOP’s ticket in two years. Gillespie almost upset US Sen.
