South Carolina: Harvard honors Haley. The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations awarded Gov. Nikki Haley (R) an award “in recognition for leadership,” reports Time magazine, in the aftermath of the tragic shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. The award comes amidst continuing speculation that Haley is a prospective vice-presidential nominee for the GOP in 2016 ……. Florida: Carson for House Speaker? US Rep. Ron DeSantis (R), who is a candidate for the US Senate to succeed Marco Rubio, told Roll Call newspaper that “I would go bold. You don’t have to be a member of Congress” to be House speaker. “I would support someone like Dr. Carson… I think that would be good.” DeSantis’ fellow Floridian, US Rep. Daniel Webster (R), is running for the job, along with US Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA). DeSantis’ staff later said DeSantis “was just throwing out ideas.” ……. Texas: Trump leads; Cruz second. The latest Lyceum Poll of Republicans in the Lone Star State gives Donald Trump 21%, Ted Cruz 16%, Ben Carson 12% and Jeb Bush 10%, with others in single digits, according to The Quorum Report …….
