Hemp: Dixie farmers growing non-potent weed. With the decline in once-lucrative tobacco farming, many Southern farmers are beginning to grow industrial hemp, reports the Washington Post. Hemp was once illegal because of its resemblance to marijuana, its euphoria-producing cousin, but some Southern states (KY, SC & TN) have repealed their ban on growing hemp. A similar bill passed the North Carolina legislature and is awaiting Gov. Pat McCrory’s (R) signature ……. Virginia: Democrats out-raise GOP. With control of the state senate hanging in the balance, Virginia Democrats have raised $6.6 million, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, and had $2.9 million on hand at the end of September. Meanwhile, Republicans raised $2.2 million, but had $3.7 million on hand ……. North Carolina: Democrats lead in voter registration.
