North Carolina: New Senate race numbers. In a Public Policy Polling survey of Tar Heel Democrats, former state Rep. Deborah Ross, who once headed the state ACLU, received 45%, businessman Kevin Griffin had 16% and Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey had 6%. In a November matchup, US Sen. Richard Burr (R) had an unimpressive lead over Ross, 43% to 39% ……. Florida: Nugent won’t seek reelection. US Rep. Rich Nugent (R) announced that he will not seek a fourth term next year. Nugent, who easily won reelection in 2012 and 2014, said the job requires him to spend too much time away from his family. The GOP should hold the seat, depending on the current redistricting outcome ……. Maryland: Whites, blacks disagree over violence. Although it is a border state, Maryland opinions on racial issues may indicate how Southerners feel on such matters. A Washington Post/University of Maryland poll found that when asked whether police or people were the bigger cause of violence in encounters with police, blacks, by 68% to 19%, said police behavior, while whites, by 60% to 28%, said people not respecting and obeying police …….
