Arkansas: Cotton urges surveillance extension. US Sen. Tom Cotton (R), a stalwart hawk, is introducing legislation to extend the National Security Agency’s authority to collect and analyze bulk telephone records, an authority which is expiring, reports the Washington Post. “We should allow the intelligence community to do their job and provide them with the tools they need to keep us safe,” Cotton said ……. Tennessee:Clinton raises money. The Volunteer State is no longer a Democratic stronghold, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some high rollers backing Hillary Clinton. She raised $500,000 at a Nashville fundraiser last week, with the guests including US Rep. Jim Cooper (D), and actors Ted Danson and Ashley Judd, reports the Tennessee Journal ……. Virginia: Marijuana arrests increase. Nationwide, arrests for possession of pot decreased by 6.5% between 2003 and 2014, but during the same period, such arrests increased by 76% in Virginia, reports the Washington Post. Some 47% of those arrested were African Americans, although the state is only 20% black …….
