Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton said Wednesday that he strongly disagrees with Donald Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country, adding that the United States should encourage Muslims around the world to lead a movement to reject extremist Islamic ideology.
“Joe, I strongly disagree with that proposal and even Mr. Trump has begun to walk it back,” the freshman Republican senator told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” In the end, though, we have to recognize that there is a small number of Muslims around the world who oppose Western civilization and want to launch terror attacks against us.”
Cotton then referenced reports that neighbors of the two shooters in San Bernardino, California, “suspected that they might be assembling an arsenal for a kind of attack, but they were worried about the forces of political correctness and didn’t report it to the police even though the Obama administration repeatedly says if you see something you have to say something.
