Mississippi: Bryant to stress same goals. Gov. Phil Bryant (R) promised “more of the same” in his second term, reported the Jackson Free Press. “You will see the economy and education take the center of any legislative agenda we will propose in the next four years,” Bryant said in remarks to the Mississippi Economic Council. Bryant was inaugurated Tuesday ……. Texas: Abbott urges constitutional convention. Gov. Greg Abbott (R), speaking to the Texas Public Policy Foundation last week, urged the states to convene a constitutional convention to add nine new amendments that would restrict the power of the federal government, reported the Austin American-Statesman. “Departures from the Constitution are not the aberration,” Abbott lamented. “Now they have become the norm.”  ……. Oklahoma: Lankford on the fence. “No one knows but my wife who I would support for the [Republican] primary,” US Sen. James Lankford (R) said during an appearance in Wagoner, Oklahoma.  He expressed surprise at the strength of both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, noting of Trump that a year ago, “I bet he didn’t predict he was going to even run.” Of Sanders, Lankford noted, “He has a tremendous amount of money and a tremendous amount of backing and enthusiasm.” …….
