Virginia: Cuccinelli nominated for state Supreme Court. Former state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R), a staunch social conservative, was nominated for a vacancy on the Virginia Supreme Court by the state Senate’s Courts of Justice Committee yesterday. Democrats in the state have already begun using Cuccinelli’s section for fundraising. Cuccinelli lost to Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) in a close race in 2013 ……. Georgia: Deal opposes “religious liberty” legislation. In a strongly worded declaration, Gov. Nathan Deal (R) urged state lawmakers to reject any proposal that “allows discrimination in our state in order to project people of faith.” He said he believes religious people can be protected without facilitating discrimination, urging lawmakers to recognize that “the world is changing around us.” ……. Alabama: Supremes protect adoption by lesbian mother. The US Supreme Court ruled that the “full faith and credit” provision of the Constitution requires Alabama to recognize a lesbian’s adoption of three children in Georgia, where such adoptions are legal, when the woman moved to Alabama …….
