North Carolina: McCrory defends new discrimination law. Contending that the news media are “distorting the truth,” Gov. Pat McCrory (R) said that “We have not taken away any rights that have currently existed in any city…,” reported the News & Observer. “Every city and every corporation have the exact same nondiscrimination policy this week as they had two weeks ago.” The new law establishes statewide non-discrimination policies without including the gay community and related sexual minorities. However, reporters questioned whether some local laws would be superseded by the new law …….

Virginia: McAuliffe vetoes defunding of Planned Parenthood. Appearing at a Richmond clinic yesterday, Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) announced his veto of a bill passed by the Republican legislature that would eliminate state funding from Planned Parenthood. “We are here today to smack down the latest attack on ladies’ healthcare rights,” McAuliffe said, reported WTVR.com …….




Oklahoma: Democratic chair stirs hornets’ nest. Mark Hammons, chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, created controversy with a recent email to party officials that listed issues they should avoid, reports The McCarville Report.  Headlined, “DO NOT ISSUE RELEASES ON THE FOLLOWING AND REMOVE FACEBOOK POSTS ON THE FOLLOWING, the section included “Sexual orientation bills, abortion, Planned Parenthood. Similarly, no gun control, 2d Amendment issues.” Doesn’t leave much to fight about …….
