Alabama: Bentley signs medical marijuana law. Gov. Robert Bentley (R) has signed a bill passed by the legislature that allows legal possession of cannabidiol, or medicinal marijuana oil, into the state for medical purposes. Bentley said the law allows patients with serious illnesses to “consider every possible option for treatment,” reported ABC3340.com ……. Kentucky: Beshear sues Bevin over university funding. State Attorney General Andy Beshear (D) is suing Gov. Matt Bevin (R) to stop his executive order cutting funds previously appropriated to university funding. Beshear contends only the legislature can make the cuts, reports WLKY.com. Not so, says the governor’s office, once the funds are the responsibility of the executive branch ……. North Carolina: US says “bathroom bill” violates civil rights act. The Justice Department has informed Gov. Pat McCrory (R) that the state’s law that says folks must use the public rest room that matches the gender designation on their birth certificate is in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act’s prohibition of discrimination based on sex. The finding jeopardizes millions of dollars in federal funds that would otherwise go to the Tar Heel State, reports the Washington Post …….
