Arkansas: Cotton in 2020? US Sen. Tom Cotton (R), a hawkish foreign policy ally of US Sens. John McCain (AZ) and Lindsey Graham (SC), is “widely viewed as angling for a run” for the White House in four years, says the New York Times. Indeed, Cotton has already spoken at GOP events in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. But he told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette such speculation was premature. “I’m firmly committed to ensure that we hold our Republican majority in the Senate,” he said ……. Mississippi: Bryant gets good approval rating. In a series of polls conducted by Morning Consult, the Magnolia State’s Gov. Phil Bryant (R) had a 60% approval rating, placing him in the top third of governors nationwide, reports the Clarion-Ledger ……. Texas: Abbott, Cruz call for unity, but … At the state GOP convention this past weekend, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) told the delegates, “Republicans must unite to prevent Hillary from continuing the Obama agenda,” reported the Dallas Morning News. US Sen. Ted Cruz expressed similar sentiments. Neither one mentioned the name of Donald Trump, who was represented by US Sen. Jeff Sessions (AL) …….
