Around the South for June 22nd, 2016: KY, TX, and NC

Kentucky: McConnell silent on Trump.  U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to comment on Donald Trump’s increasingly troublesome bid for President for the past two weeks.  Another bad sign for the presumptive GOP nominee, who has had a rough week with the firing of his campaign manager and shockingly low campaign financial disclosure.

Texas: Dems say state ‘in play’.  At the state Democratic Convention this week, high ranking Dems stuck to their statement that the state would be ‘in play’ come November.  Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, who spoke at the event, is rumored to be on the shortlist of VP candidates for Hillary Clinton.

North Carolina: National GOP group to support AG bid.  The Republican Attorneys General Association announced this week that it plans to spend upwards of $3 million in ad buys supporting State Sen. Buck Newton in his bid for Attorney General of North Carolina.  He faces off against Democrat Josh Stein in November.
