Tennessee: DesJarlais wins primary. US Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R) won renomination in last Thursday’s Republican Primary in the 4th District (Murfreesboro, etc.), garnering 52% to challenger Grant Starrett’s 43%. In 2012, DesJarlais, who had been plagued by earlier personal scandals, won by a mere 38 votes ……. North Carolina: Kaine sees Tar Heel voter increase. US Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), speaking to a rally in Greensboro last week, predicted that the federal court ruling overturning the state’s recent changes in voting laws, including the requirement of a photo ID, “could mean an additional 100,000 people” could vote this November, reports the Washington Post ……. Florida: Rubio, Murphy in the lead. Marco Rubio, seeking reelection to the US Senate, had 62% among Republicans, according to last week’s Suffolk University Poll, to 12% for his challenger in the primary, homebuilder Carlos Beruff. On the Democratic side, US Rep. Patrick Murphy had 36% to 17% for US Rep. Alan Grayson. The primaries are scheduled for August 30 …….
