Virginia: Scott to the Senate? In a front page story, the Washington Post touts the possibility that US Rep. Bobby Scott (D) will become the state’s first African American US Senator if incumbent Tim Kaine (D) is elected vice-president in November. The Post calls Scott “the front-runner” and notes that Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) might appoint him to the vacant seat ……. Texas: Cornyn not endorsing Cruz. Following the precedent set by US Sen. Ted Cruz (R) in 2014 when US Sen. John Cornyn (R) had primary opposition, Cornyn will not endorse Cruz in a likely-to-be contested primary in 2018. But Cornyn also told CNN that he was “not recruiting anybody” to oppose Cruz ……. Oklahoma: Fallin reviewing criminal justice. Gov. Mary Fallin (R) has appointed a task force of 17 lawmakers and others to formulate a plan to reform the state’s crime and punishment system. “I am confident that we can make our communities safer and cut the growing cost of our state’s corrections system,” Fallin said, reported The Norman Transcript …….
