Kentucky: McConnell will decide on filibuster. Some Senate GOPers would like to abolish the rule requires a 60-vote majority to pass legislation and avoid a crippling talkathon. This would allow major bills favored by President Trump to pass with the Republicans’ 52-member majority. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) is cautious about the change, in part because a rule change could help Democrats in the future. He recently said to reporters, “Frequently new majorities think it’s going to be forever. Nothing is forever in this country,” reported The Hill ……. South Carolina: Harrison a DNC chair prospect. At least eight prominent Democrats are being touted as potential chairs for the Democratic National Committee, among them Jaime Harrison, chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party. The early favorite, reports The Hill, is US Rep. Keith Ellison (MN), the only Muslim in Congress ……. Texas: Abbott optimistic about Trump. In an interview last week with the Dallas Morning News, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said “There’s great similarity between what President-elect Trump stands for and will be working to achieve and what Texans will be working to achieve,” citing in particular that Trump “will do a far better job securing the border.” …….
