Robert Bentley (R) has asked the 400-members of the Alabama Republican Executive Committee to submit names to him to consider in appointing a successor to US Sen. Jeff Sessions (R), who is slated to become the US attorney general. The deadline is Dec. 1 …… Arkansas: Hutchinson working on medical pot. Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) said in a news conference Monday that he is working with legislators to implement the state’s program for medical marijuana. Voters approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes by 53% to 47% on Nov. 8. Hutchinson has promised to use $3 million from the state’s Rainy Day Fund to get the program off the ground, reports KARK TV ……. Kentucky: Bevin restructures Arts Council. Observers are puzzled by Gov. Matt Bevin’s (R) decision to replace all but four of the 16-member Kentucky Arts Council and to replace its executive director, reports the Lexington Herald Leader. One theory: That Bevin was miffed when a group of black poets declined to accept a Governor’s Award last August. Others say it is one more battle in the nation’s on-going culture wars …….
