Oklahoma: Pruitt facing confirmation fight. President-elect Donald Trump’s naming of Sooner State Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency has drawn major opposition from Capitol Hill Democrats. The appointment “is the worst-case scenario when it comes to clear air and clean water…” US Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) told The Hill. And US Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said he will oppose Pruitt’s confirmation “vigorously.” ……. Louisiana: GOP favored in Senate runoff. The latest independent poll shows state Treasurer John Kennedy (R) ahead of Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell (D) by 52% to 38%. But Campbell is fighting hard, saying in one TV spot, “I don’t wear a thousand-dollar suit to walk down a gravel road. He does,” reports the Washington Post ……. Tennessee: Alexander helps pass major healthcare bill. US Sen. Lamar Alexander (R) led the Senate effort to pass the 21st Century Cures Act, which includes expanded funding for research on cancer and Alzheimer’s, as well as state grants to combat opioid addiction. The bipartisan measure, which President Obama will sign, passed the Senate by 94 to 5, with opposition only from US Sens. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and several other liberal lawmakers, reports The Hill …….
