Texas: Trump picks Perry, Tillerson. President-elect Donald Trump announced two key cabinet appointments yesterday, former Gov. Rick Perry (R) as Energy Secretary and Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. Both men are from Texas, bringing the number of Southerners in key posts in Trump’s administration to eight. That’s eight of 17, or if you subtract the three generals from the mix – their bases are institutional rather than regional – eight of 14. He’s dancing with the ones what brung him ……. Florida: Rubio unhappy with Tillerson. US Sen. Marco Rubio (R), a former Trump rival whose peace with The Donald has been shaky at best, expressed “concerns” with the choice of Tillerson as Secretary of State, citing his ties to Russia’s Vladimir Putin. “While Rex Tillerson is a respected businessman, I have serious concerns about his nomination,” Rubio said, as reported by Sunshine State News. He added that the position should be held by someone “who views the world with moral clarity, is free of potential conflicts of interest…” ……. Virginia: Forbes for Navy Secretary? Nine House Armed Services Committee members last month wrote a letter to Veep-elect Mike Pence, urging that retiring US Rep. Randy Forbes be selected for Secretary of the Navy. Forbes, who has since visited Trump Tower, has opposed deep cuts in the Defense budget, a stance popular in Virginia, with its significant military installations …….
