Virginia: Beyer wants Electoral College delay. US Rep. Don Beyer (D) sent out a tweet this week calling on Congress to delay Monday’s vote by presidential electors, reports the Washington Post, until each one has been given a briefing by intelligence agencies on alleged Russian interference in the US election. Don’t hold your breath ……. Texas: Tillerson gets backing. Despite expressions of concern about his nomination by US Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and John McCain (R-AZ), oil executive Rex Tillerson picked up some key GOP support this week. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Majority Whip John Cornyn (TX) both announced their support for Tillerson, and US Sen. Ted Cruz (TX), a strong critic of Russia’s Vladimir Putin, praised Tillerson for his “expertise” and “incredible career,” reports The Hill ……. Louisiana: State court dismisses LGBT order. A state court judge threw out an executive order by Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) that would have outlawed discrimination in government and state contracts based on sexual orientation. The challenge to Edwards’ order was brought by state Attorney General Jeff Landry (R), who said it exceeded the governor’s authority under Louisiana’s constitution …….
