Kentucky: Bevin signs anti-abortion bills. Gov. Matt Bevin (R) has signed two bills into law that place restrictions on abortions. The first requires the physician or technician to show ultrasound images of the fetus to the mother prior to performing the procedure. The second bans all abortions after 20 months of pregnancy, although there is an exception if the woman’s life is endangered ……. Tennessee: State Senate elects new speaker. State Sen. Randy McNally (R) of Oak Ridge was elected Senate Speaker at the opening of the Volunteer State’s 110th legislature; McNally succeeds Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey (R), who did not seek reelection. The position is equivalent to that of lieutenant governor in other states. In the House, Speaker Beth Harwell (R) was reelected to a fourth term ……. Texas: Straus elected House Speaker again.
