Around the South for Jan. 13: SC, TX & VA

South Carolina: Scott answers insult with one word. A racist tweet called US Sen. Tim Scott (R), the only Republican in the upper chamber, a “house n—-a.” In response, Scott tweeted back, “Senate.” The Twitter account has since disappeared from the Internet, reports the Post & Courier ……. Texas: Conservative group supports Cruz. The Senate Conservatives Fund, headed by Ken Cuccinelli II, a prominent Virginia conservative, has endorsed the reelection of US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whose renomination has been controversial with some on the right because of his very late endorsement of Donald Trump. Citing Cruz’s ardent support of US Sen. Jeff Sessions’  (R-AL) nomination to be US Attorney General, Cuccinelli’s emailed, “Senator Cruz was at the top of his game this week and we believe this is the perfect time to endorse him for re-election in Texas.” ……. Virginia: McAuliffe urges cooperation on economy. Term-limited Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) opened the legislature yesterday making a plea for the GOP lawmakers to work with him to bolster the state’s economy, reported the Washington Post. “While political fights rage in Washington,” the governor said, we have proven again and again that Virginia is a place where leaders still work together to get things done.”  …….
