Georgia: Lewis, Trump clash big time. First, US Rep. John Lewis (D), widely described as a “civil rights icon,” announced he would not attend Donald Trump’s inauguration because, due to Russia’s involvement, he was not a “legitimate” president. Then Trump tweeted that Lewis should focus on his Atlanta district which, The Donald claimed, is “crime infested” and “falling apart.” Maybe we shouldn’t stay tuned …….Florida: Establishments win party chair elections. On Saturday, Sunshine State Democrats and Republicans held elections for party chairs. Democrats chose Miami-Dade fundraiser Stephen Bittel over Leah Carius, from the party’s more liberal wing, as her supporters outside waved signs that the party “is not for sale,” reported the Orlando Sentinel. The GOP reelected incumbent state Rep. Blaise Ingoglia over challenger Christian Ziegler ……. Virginia: Ed Gillespie, the former Republican national chairman who lost a close race for the US Senate in 2014, launched his gubernatorial bid on Saturday with a fly-around in which he stressed improving the economy, reports the Washington Post, to be followed by a four-day tour of the state in an RV …….
