Virginia: Northam, Gillespie ahead in primary polls. Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam (D) drew 26% of respondents in a poll of Democrats, with 15% supporting former US Rep. Tom Perriello (D); some 60% were undecided. On the Republican side, former Republican National Chairman Ed Gillespie was first, with about 33%, followed by 9% for state Sen. Frank Wagner and 7% for Prince William Board Chairman Corey Stewart; about half of GOP voters were undecided. The surveys were conducted by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Public Policy …… Texas: DCCC targets two GOPers. Republican US Reps. John Culberson, with 56%, and Pete Sessions, with 61%, won reelection handily over weak Democratic challengers last November. However, Hillary Clinton outpolled Donald Trump in both districts. So the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added the two districts to its list of targets to receive special attention in 2018 ……. Arkansas: Hutchinson to address infant bed deaths. Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) will look into ways to reduce Arkansas’s rate of infants who die in their sleep, now the second highest in the nation. He acknowledged, however, that “This is a very difficult area. I’ve looked at some of the things being done in other states and I didn’t see anything that was a ‘wow!’ moment, or anything that might solve the problem in Arkansas,” reported the Arkansas Democrat …….
