Arkansas: Cotton would decrease immigrants. US Sen. Tom Cotton (R) introduced legislation yesterday that would cut in half the number of green card holders – legal immigrants allowed to work in the United States – from about 1 million to 500,000. The bill would focus on allowing immigrants in who seek to reunite with family, reports Reuters ……. Florida: Demings gets noticed. Freshman US Rep. Val Demings (D), a former police chief, has already begun to make her mark in Congress. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D) swore Demings in at a ceremony in Orlando. Moreover, the freshman lawmaker has already introduced high-profile legislation, a bill that would give the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on which she serves, authority over the wall on the US-Mexican border, reports Sunshine State News ……. Oklahoma: Fallin would eliminate sales tax on groceries. In her State of the State address opening this year’s legislative session, Gov. Mary Fallin proposed eliminating the sales tax on groceries, eliminating the state corporate income tax, and making up the lost revenue by expanding the sales tax base to services and increasing fuel and tobacco taxes, reported the Tulsa World …….
