Tennessee: Corker condemns chemical warfare in Syria. US Sen. Bob Coker (R), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, yesterday denounced the suspected use of chemical weapons in Syria. Corker urged the United States and its European allies to “strongly condemn this moral outrage and demand accountability for Assad’s war crimes.” He noted that the promised removal of such weapons in a 2013 agreement “did not fully occur.” ……. North Carolina: Conway to address GOP. Robin Hayes, chairman of the state Republican Party, announced yesterday that Kellyanne Conway would be a keynote speaker at the party’s state convention on June 3rd. Hayes said that Conway “is an esteemed political strategist who made history in 2016 as the first woman to run a winning presidential campaign.” ……. Kentucky: McConnell,Rogers propose coal country revitalization. US Sen. Mitch McConnell (R) and US Rep. Hal Rogers (R), in a column in The Hill, outlined their proposal to bring aid to the parts of Appalachia economically devastated by the collapse of much of the coal mining industry. Their Reclaim Act of 2017 “would release $1 billion of the Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Fund over five years” to finance the cleanup of these areas so they can attract new employers …….
