North Carolina: Support for Trump falls. The latest Elon University Poll found that 49% of the state’s voters believe President Trump is doing a worse job as president that President Obama, while 39% say Trump is doing a better job. Nearly 75% of voters believe Trump’s tweets are “inappropriate.” As for the wall on the border with Mexico, 92% of Democrats oppose it, while 76% of Republicans favor it ……. Virginia: First Lady McAuliffe for Congress? Dorothy McAuliffe, wife of Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), told the Washington Post that she is considering entering the 10th District Democratic Primary next year to choose a challenger to incumbent Barbara Comstock (R), who is deemed vulnerable because the district went strongly for Hillary Clinton last year. There are already four other Democrats in the race. McAuliffe would start with high name ID and a ready-made fundraising operation ……. Georgia: GOP gets behind Handel. After a contentious primary in which Republican Karen Handel came in second, thus earning a spot in the June 20 runoff, Republican heavyweights are coalescing around her. Locally, her chief foe, town councilman Bob Gray (R) quickly endorsed her, as did former nemesis Gov. Nathan Deal (R). On the national level, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) plans to stump for her, reports The Hill, and US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has signed a fundraising letter for her. Both Handel and her Democratic foe, documentary film producer Jon Ossoff (D), are raising money hand-over-fist …….
