ACA: Five Southern GOPers vote against Obamacare repeal. President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan carried the day, albeit narrowly, in the House of Representatives to substantially revise the Affordable Care Act. However, 20 Republicans voted against the GOP compromise bill, five of them from the South: Barbara Comstock (VA), Will Hurd (TX), Walter Jones (NC), Tom Massie (KY), and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL). Most were from districts where Trump ran poorly last fall ……. OK: Fallin threatens veto. Gov. Mary Fallin (R) declared this week that she will veto any budget passed by the legislature that requires deep cuts to state agencies, reports the Tulsa World. She lamented that the legislature had passed no revenue-raising measures, although the state faces a budget imbalance of some $878 million. “I am willing to veto the budget,” she said ……. SC: Heritage ousts DeMint. The 22-member board of the Heritage Foundation voted unanimously to remove former US Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) from his post as president of the conservative group. Ed Feulner, founder of the group, will take over as president. The board cites communication and management problems, reported the Washington Post, charges DeMint denied. DeMint emphasized political action, while others wanted to stress the groups academic studies to buttress the conservative movement …….
