South Carolina: Perez, O’Malley stump for Democrats. With an emphasis on the 5thDistrict (Rock Hill, etc.), Democratic National Chairman Tom Perez and former Maryland governor and former presidential candidate Martin O’Malley spent last Saturday criss-crossing the Palmetto State, addressing Democratic audiences. While the GOP is favored in SC’s 5th District special congressional election on June 20, and the contest isn’t getting the kind of ink that GA’s 6th District is getting, it still could be closer than expected, and give the Democrats a boost ……. Georgia: Emily endorses Stacey. EMILY’s list, a fund-raising group for Democratic women, has endorsed state House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams for governor of the Peach State in next year’s election. The endorsement came days after former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates (D) withdrew her name from gubernatorial speculation ……. North Carolina: McCrory calls for new ID law. Former Tar Heel governor Pat McCrory (R), addressing Saturday’s state Republican Convention, called on the state to pass a new and improved voter ID law, and blasted incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper (D), who defeated McCrory last year, for not defending the state’s law before the US Supreme Court and for providing insufficient funding for Hurricane Matthew relief, reports the News & Observer …….
