Georgia: Ossoff gaining. In the spirited contest in the June 20 special congressional election in Georgia’s 6th District (Atlanta suburbs), Jon Ossoff (D) leads in two recent polls. In the WSB-TV poll taken June 6-7, Ossoff had 49.6% to 47.1% for Karen Handel (R), a two-and-a-half point lead for the Democrat. In an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll released Friday, Ossoff had 51%, Handel 44%. And in the money chase, Ossoff raised some $15 million in the past two months to $4 million for Handel ……. Texas: Hensarling financial deregulation bill passes House. By a party line vote of 233 to 186, the US House of Representatives passed legislation sponsored by USRep. Jeb Hensarling (R), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, that dismantles much of the Dodd-Frank law that regulates Wall Street banks. The measure also contained other deregulation provisions. The bill, however, is expected to face a more troubled path in the Senate ……. Florida: Medical marijuana bill goes to Scott. The Florida legislature passed and sent to Gov. Rick Scott (R) a measure that would allow 25 retail facilities for medical marijuana in the state. Its use would be limited to medical conditions like HIV/AIDS, epilepsy, glaucoma and other forms of cancer, reports the Sunshine State News …….
