Louisiana: Scalise in critical condition. According to Reuters, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) is in critical condition following surgery yesterday at MedStar WashingtonHospital Center. Scalise was shot in the hip yesterday while practicing for the annual baseball game between congressional members from both parties. The shooter, a Bernie Sanders supporter with a history of anti-GOP activities, is also in the hospital …….Virginia: Northam, Gillespie win primaries. Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam (D) handily defeated a liberal challenge from former US Rep. Tom Perriello (D) in yessterday’s Democratic Primary. Northam, who had the support of virtually the entire Democratic establishment in Virginia, had 56% to Perriello’s 44%. On the GOP side, former National Republican Chairman Ed Gillespie won the nomination in a close battle with Corey Stewart, who ran as a strong Trump supporter. Gillespie had 44%, Stewart 43% and state Sen. Frank Wagner had 14%. Stewart has not conceded ……. South Carolina: Sanders, GOPers, oppose firing Mueller. In the midst of rumors that President Trump might fire special prosecutor Robert Mueller, Republicans in the Capitol are strongly against dismissing Mueller. Typical was the response of US Rep. Mark Sanders (R-SC). “I think it’s a form of political suicide,” Sanders told The Hill. “If you fire one guy, then you fire another; all of a sudden it begins to look like you have a reason to want the investigations to go away.” …….
