Texas: Senate passes ‘bathroom bill.” After eight hours of debate Tuesday, the Texas Senate passed a bill requiring public school students to use the bathroom of the gender listed on their birth certificate. The measure also strikes down city laws that protect transgender person’s rights to use public restrooms. The bill was on the list of Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) special session priorities ……. South Carolina: Scott introduces Walter Scott Act. US Sen. Tim Scott (R) introduced a bill that would require any state that receives federal funds for law enforcement to document every time an officer is involved in a shooting that ends in a civilian death. The proposal is named after Walter Scott (no relation), a man shot by a police officer in North Charleston who later pled guilty. “I believe this can help us keep both our officers and our communities safer,” Scott said, reported The State ……. Florida: Wasserman Schultz in Dutch again. US Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) is getting bad ink for keeping Information Technology (IT) aide Imran Awan on her payroll until the day he was arrested on bank fraud charges while trying to leave the country. Awan had previously been banned from use of the US House computer system and was fired by other House employers in March, reports Sunshine State News. Whassup? …….
