Around the South for September 26th: TX, SC, & KY

Texas: Legislators criticize football protests.  Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn were among those who criticized the keeling-during-the-anthem protests in the NFL over the weekend, particularly by their hometown Dallas Cowboys.  “I, for one, am not a fan of rich, spoiled athletes disrespecting the flag,” said Cruz.  South Carolina: State legislators ask for SCANA investigation.  SC House members are asking the state to investigate SCANA for potential fraud after the utility giant abandoned two nuclear reactors mid-construction, leaving the state out nearly $2  billion.  Kentucky: Bevin, Beshear square off.  Governor Matt Bevin (R) and Attorney General Andy Beshear (D) are locking horns in the Bluegrass State over the governor’s request to shear some $350 million off the state budget.  Beshear is calling the request illegal, putting the budget situation in murky waters.
